Atlanta Jewish Film Festival

Building Bridges Between Cultures

The purpose of the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival is to use cinema as a means to connect and unite different communities and cultures. Each year, the festival aims to showcase its mission and global theme through a visually exciting and innovative marketing campaign.

Over a three-year period I served as contract Assistant Creative Director and Senior Designer for the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival. During my tenure our small team created over 1,000 content assets including exhibits, print, digital, video, motion, outdoor, illustration, and events.

Roles: Assistant Creative/Design Director, Senior Designer

2019 Campaign: International Travel Poster Theme (My Favorite)

Challenge: After the huge success of our first campaign (below)for the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival the organization's CEO dusted of a concept that they had not been able to develop in-house a few years earlier - a vintage travel poster themed campaign that highlights the international flavor of the festival.

Outcome: Once again the creative I created, particularly the stylized illustrations, wowed them to a point where they could not just decide on only one to represent the entire festival. And if you can't just choose one, why not go with all six options created for the pitch. Over 150 unique elements and media sizes were crated for the campaign ranging from outdoor media to digital advertising.

Inspiration

Inspiration: Vintage international travel posters from the "golden age of travel" inspired the typography and and illustration style for the key art in the campaign

The deliverables by our creative team included an award-winning invitation design, posters, banners, event program, and promotional merchandise.

2018 Campaign: Vintage Event Poster Theme

Challenge: In 2018 I was chosen as the first outside agency to produce a creative marketing campaign for the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival. The challenge was producing and managing a campaign with over 300 unique creative executions and media sizes within a three-month period as a one-person design studio.

Outcome: It got done and was the most successful marketing campaign in their history. Plus, the great relationships with the AJFF team members I worked so closely with cannot be forgotten.

Inspiration

Becoming part of the visual fabric of a community is always something desired by artists and designers. But to have it attached to such a fantastic event gives it special meaning. Using the power of film to entertain and educate, create bridges, and open dialog across cultures makes the world a better place for everyone.

Inspired by vintage concert posters, especially those produced by the Globe Poster Company between the 1950s and 1980s, our solution allowed us to create complex, colorful, dynamic art that playfully demands attention and draws the viewer in. The nostalgic style also capitalizes on current design trends popular with 20-30-year-olds and connects with the 30+ markets familiar with the original look.

The deliverables by our creative team included an award-winning invitation design, posters, banners, event program, and promotional merchandise.

2020 Campaign: Twentieth Anniversary

Challenge: The challenge for the third year of developing the Atalanta Jewish Film Festival's creative campaign was both topping the success of the previous years' campaigns and highlighting their 20th anniversary. No easy task.

Outcome: After a few false starts our team decided to approach the creative for the 20th anniversary with a more modern bold graphic approach compared with previous years. Once again the festival grew in size beyond expectations.
